Heart of Living Yoga

THE HEART OF LIVING YOGA* TRADITION…

is the flowering of grace that flows from the Source. This flow of grace is called in India the Parampara. The lineage can be traced back through hundreds of thousands of years.

The founder of this tradition, Rev. Padma Devi Sumananda, was blessed to be a devotee and student of Sri Swami Satchidananda, who set up Yogaville in America and founded the Integral Yoga organisation. This essence of grace was passed to her through him, as it had been passed to Sri Swami Satchidananda through his Guru, Sri Swami Sivananda, and so on back through the ages.

The lineage, Heart Of Living Yoga, also includes and is nurtured and supported by beloved Sri Anandamayi Ma, Paramahansa Yogananda, Lord Jesus and Mahavatar Babaji.

As the name suggests, Heart Of Living Yoga is a way of bringing yoga into every area of life – a practical way of bringing heaven to earth. It is a path of love and service through self-development and direct experience of the Real.

It offers a harmonious combination of the 4 traditional Schools of Yoga – Bhakti – the path of devotion; Karma – the path of selfless service; Raja – the path of yogic psychology; Jnana – the path of intellectual self-enquiry – together with Kriya Yoga – the path of internal action; Hatha Yoga – the path of physical postures & pranayama; & Japa Yoga – the path of mantra repetition.

Each Heart of Living Yoga class is based on the Heart Practice and offers the simplest way for teacher and students to share the experience of Oneness. Whether the class is through a combination of hatha, raja, pranayama, chant, relaxation, meditation & mantra – or any single one of those, the Heart Practice gives us full permission to re-connect with the Divine, whose home is the heart – and it gives us the means of connecting, through the heart.

Our Hatha Yoga practice is based on the Rishikesh Sequence, just as Integral Yoga, Sivananda Yoga and Divine Life Yoga all are. This sequence is based on ancient yogic science, knowledge and principles, which are still vibrantly alive and relevant today.

Although Heart of Living Yoga classes may appear to be different, according to the needs of the students & the guidance of the teacher – the vibration of the teaching and the experience of the students at the end of each class, is always the same – at home in the heart of being.

I have been practicing Integral Yoga for about 5 years now with my beloved teacher Rowan Cobelli (Ragavan – on the picture above).

In February 2017 during our Heart of Living Yoga training and pilgrimage to India I received a Mantra Initiation (Japa Yoga) within the waters of Ganga Ma in Rishikesh. And I have also received my  Yoga Name which I have embraced with all my heart: ANDYARA TARA.

I’ve graduated as a Heart of Living Yoga Teacher in November 2017 in order to be able to lead classes of this calibre – adapting to the needs of each student and gently guiding and nurturing each one – supporting, exploring and enjoying yoga in all its wonderful forms – but always through the lens of the transformational Heart Practice and heart meditations. And I am looking forward to sharing this Joy and Grace with you all.
